3. Ontario Ministerial Shut Down Order

Today the Ford Government announced that Ontario is entering an “emergency break shut-down” for 4 weeks beginning April 3 and that the situation for schools will be “closely monitored”. JICS will remain open for in-person learning and the April Spring Break (April 12 to 16) will proceed as planned. In the event that a ministerial school closure is announced in the weeks ahead, we will follow the order and provide distance education.

In addition, here are some new helpful resources from Toronto Public Health:

  1. Unsure if your child has a symptom of COVID-19? This resource provides considerations for each of the symptoms: Understanding COVID-19 Symptoms in JK-12 Students

  2. Unsure if you should take your child for testing? Read more about when to test and the types of tests available: COVID-19 Testing for School Students and Staff JK-12

4. Thank You!

This year has been filled with challenges, disruption, and adversity, and while we have persevered, it has taken a toll on so many. Everyone, students, staff, and parents, has worked so hard to ensure that JICS is safe. We hope that you are able to take this long weekend as an opportunity to pause and catch your breath and we thank everyone for your continued commitment and dedication to our community. We see the results of your commitment every day and we are grateful.

5. Spring Travel

We expect anyone travelling outside of Ontario to follow the current recommendations of the Ontario government to self-isolate for 14 days upon returning home, and to only travel if it is essential. If you plan to travel anywhere outside of Canada or Ontario this Spring, please fill out the JICS Travel Form. Please ensure that you are following the required protocols for safe travel as well as a safe return. Note that teachers do not prepare work material for students if their absence is related to a vacation.

7. Parent Education: Gutter Child

If you missed the wonderful Q&A with author Jael Richardson moderated by Harper Collins Editor and JICS Parent, Jennifer Lambert on March 25 you are in luck:

8. Read-A-Thon

The annual JICS Library fundraiser ends April 9. We have raised $2075 to date!!! Thank you for your support and donations!

9. Asian Collection in JICS Library

One of the goals of the JICS Library is to broaden children’s view of themselves and others by ensuring they encounter mirrors of their background, identity, and experience, as well as windows of difference. Each year we improve our collection by adding new carefully selected resources. In light of the long history of anti-Asian racism and violence in Canada and as we look forward to Asian Heritage Month in May, we encourage parents to make donations to the JICS Library Asian Heritage Collection by donating here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-georges-schools-parents-association/ and selecting "Library - Asian Heritage Month".

10. April Fools'

We enjoyed pranking and being pranked by the children today!
