JOIN US IN A “WALK IN” AT JICS TO PROTEST CUTS IN EDUCATION

The JICS Lab School is University of Toronto’s independent school with a public purpose. We exist to make a difference in the public domain by providing new insights into school organization, teaching, and learning for the benefit of public school students and teachers.

The Ontario Government has announced that they are intending to increase class sizes in publicly funded classrooms Grade 4 and up, they are considering making changes to full-day kindergarten, and have made cuts resulting in teacher lay-offs and program cancellations (TDSB is proposing to 4 of their outdoor ed centres). Although the JICS Lab School will not be impacted by these decisions, improving the “future of education” is the responsibility of the Lab School and we need to “speak up” when Ontario’s world-renowned public schools are facing cuts that will threaten their ability to meet the needs of students. What: Walk-In protest

When: Thursday, June 6, 8:15 – 8:45am

Where: JICS Lab School, on the sidewalk at the Spadina entrance (56 Spadina Rd)

Who: JICS community: parents with their children, teachers and staff

At 8:15 am on Thursday, June 6, the JICS community is invited to take part in a “Walk-In”, a Toronto-wide action to peacefully protest cuts to education. https://linktr.ee/schoolwalkins/

Our hope is that JICS parents and their children will join JICS teachers on the Spadina Road sidewalk until the start of the school day. We will enter the school at 8:45am for regular programming following the Walk-In.

The Grade 6 students have chosen to carry the posters they made for the April 6 Rally for Education. Parents can work with their children at home to research, discuss, and make posters to send the message that our public school system must be protected and improved.

Let’s stand together to demonstrate our support for public school education!
