The Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Lab School is now more important than ever as we continue to be committed to exploring what is possible in education so that we may serve our public purpose as a lab school. Our ability to conduct research on how children learn best requires us to operate a school which is rich in ideas, strong in its vision, collaborative in its approach, and intentionally diverse in its student, teacher, and family population. Intentional diversity enhances the learning of the children, the efficacy of our research, and the education of the teacher-candidates. At JICS this includes diversity of all types: abilities; racial and cultural backgrounds; family structures; and socio-economic status. In order to achieve true diversity, we must be able to offer financial support to families, and this is why we need your help. Please buy your tickets to the JICS Tuition Support Gala.
HOT LUNCH PROGRAM
In response to parent request, the JICS Parents’ Association researched and identified Real Food For Real Kids (RFRK) to be the hot lunch provider for interested JICS families beginning April 2016. Yesterday, families who are currently enrolled in the lunch program were informed by email from RFRK that the program will continue until the end of this school year but that it will not run in its current state beginning September 2019. RFRK lists requirements in order to continue to serve our community which includes a minimum order, the hiring of service staff and the management of payment by the school or school parent council. This change is an opportunity for us to revisit our hot lunch provider and explore new options as well. If you are interested in taking part in this research, please be in touch with your class rep.
NANCY BOUDREAU
Many of you have been asking about Nancy, our school office administrator, who was absent prior to the March Break and continues to be absent today. Nancy is on the mend from a painful fall she had during a weekend and she will be away this week. We expect her back next week and we wish her well. Please continue to email and/or call Nancy’s contact info as our hired substitute has full access to both Nancy’s email and phone.
STAFFING
We have placed ads for a new Junior Kindergarten teacher and Physical Education teacher to begin September 2019.
David and Michael are excited to be in new classroom positions next year. We will share all the staffing details for the 2019-2020 school year once we have all the information confirmed.
A hiring committee with representation from the PA Exec, the school teaching team, the school administrative team, and the University will select the best candidates from the robust number of applicants we receive.

GRADE 6 & GRADE 7 REUNION (PIZZA NIGHT)
Each year, we formally invite back our graduates who are currently in Grade 7 to reunite with our current Grade 6 students and speak about their recent transition to their new school. This year the meeting will take place on April 2, after school until 5:30pm. This is a student-only event that allows children to ask questions that are meaningful to them.

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS
The Grade 1, 2, and 3 parents had their parent-teacher interviews on March 6. If you did not book an interview, please be in touch with your child’s teacher. The Nursery/JK/SK and Grade 4/5/6 parent-teacher interviews will be on April 17 and April 24. A sign-up email will be sent shortly. We would like to remind parents that at the Lab School, parent-teacher interviews may include, in addition to the classroom teacher, a teacher from the Special Education department, a member of the JICS administration and/or an MA Student.
