Dear Jackman ICS Parents,
Graduation & Legacy Gift
We are poised for our final year end celebrations – Grade 6 graduation on Thursday and our last assembly for the children on Friday. I want to send you June and summer news and, on behalf of the entire staff, best of wishes for the summer! Please look for profiles of our graduates in the June issue of the Jackman ICS Student Newsletter which will be ready by the end of the week. On Friday we will say a fond farewell to our Grade 6 graduates. We share in their parents’ pride for all that these children have accomplished and have ahead of them. Invited guests, staff and all children (JK to Gr 5) are gathering for Grade 6 graduation which will take place Thursday afternoon and will feature an original play performed by our Grade 6s as a gift to the school community. Many thanks to Sarah Murray, our Drama Teacher, who directs the play; teachers: Ben, Krista, Nick and Judith; and the parents who have arranged a reception following graduation for Grade 6 families. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Grade 6 parents who chose to construct the servery kitchen as their legacy gift. JICS now has a fully functional kitchen with a new oven, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher for classes to use for baking, prep for our hot-lunch program, and for community events such as Family Fun Night. The teachers and Day Care staff are very excited to finally have a kitchen and look forward to exploring ways to incorporate it into the students' learning experiences. The official ribbon cutting will take place at graduation.
Last Day – Friday, June 15
We will start the day with a final school assembly of the year. The school day ends at noon, and the Day Care is open 12-6pm. JK to Gr 5 children will gather in the yard at 11:50 to “clap out” our Grade 6 Graduates – please join us if you can! Day Care children will proceed to Day Care. There is no hot lunch program on Friday.
JICS in the Globe and Mail, again!
Last week, we reported that an archival photo and article of JICS from 1962 (when the school was called The St. George’s School at the Institute of Child Study) was featured in the Globe describing the impressive way science has always been taught and learned at the lab school. School Forms & Summer Communications
Thank you for completing the online school forms for the 2018-2019 school year. In August, an email will be sent to all families with information from the Parents’ Association, Wednesday Afternoon Program, and more. The Nursery teacher, Norah L'Esperance, will write to all Nursery families inviting an update on their child's summer and informing each family of their staggered start date. Other teachers will be in touch in a range of ways. Please don't hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions at all.
JICS Library Books
Please look around your home to find any JICS library books and kindly return them to Krista.
Report Cards
Report cards will be mailed by the end of June.
Summer in the Jackman ICS School Office
Richard, Chriss, Nancy, and Paige will be around much of the summer. The main entrance to 45 Walmer Road will be accessible during the summer months.
Daycare June Camp
Monday, June 18 to Friday, June 29, 8:00am to 6:00pm
Entrance to the camp will be through the playground or reception. Rooms used will be the Nursery classroom, the lunchroom, the gym, and the playround.

Student Activism at JICS
Students from the Animal Support Group (ASG) and the Emergency Care Group (ECG) want to thank everyone in the community for their fantastic support at Family Fun Night. Look for tables set up outside the school in the mornings this week with students selling merchandise, collecting donations, and raising awareness about their respective causes. The ASG club is raising funds to support the World Wildlife Federation and the ECG club is raising money to support cancer research. Both groups will announce their donation totals at the final school assembly on Friday.
