Boomerang Lunch Program

Dear JICS Families,

The Eco School Committee at JICS is excited to inform you about a new environmental initiative for our school involving children who bring lunch from home.

Starting on Monday, October 29, JICS will be launching a Boomerang Lunch program! Very much how a boomerang returns to the one who threw it, everything sent to school for lunch, will return home. This includes leftovers, containers, recyclables and garbage.

The purpose of a boomerang lunch is:

  • To increase awareness of the amount of waste created in one day’s lunch

  • To encourage the use of reusable containers

  • To discourage the use of disposable containers

The JICS teachers will be discussing the importance of a boomerang lunch program with their classes in the upcoming week. Some classes may even choose to start this week to start getting into the habit and answer any questions that arise.

In preparation for our launch of boomerang lunches, you may want to visit this website that gives helpful information about packing waste-free lunches as well as the global impact this will have: http://www.globalstewards.org/waste-free-lunch.htm.

Thank you for your help in moving JICS towards being more environmentally conscious!

Sincerely,

The Eco School Committee
