1. Last Day of First Term – Friday, Dec 20
We can hardly believe that we are in our last days of the Fall Term. In each of our classrooms and specialties, this term has been full of engagement, deep learning, and joy! Our final day of the term is Friday, December 20 and the School closes at noon. The daycare will be open for registered users until 6:00pm, with a pizza lunch provided.
2. Report Cards
Throughout this term, classroom and specialty teachers assessed each student’s progress on a continuous basis, collecting and using a wide range of information to provide an informed, accurate, and comprehensive picture of each student’s learning. The Fall Progress Report Cards were a pleasure for Richard and Chriss to pre-read this week and we thank each teacher for the time that is placed in creating them. Each report highlights the qualitative development of a student’s learning skills and higher-order thinking skills. We hope you will take care in reading these thoughtfully written holistic descriptions of your child when they arrive to you next week in the mail, once we have recorded all the absence/late information.
3. Lunar New Year
Saturday, January 25, 2020 is Lunar New Year, the joyous festival celebrated in many Asian countries that begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends on the first full moon of the lunar calendar, 15 days later. We are asking for parent volunteers to help us pick a date and plan with us to celebrate at JICS! If you are interested, please email your child’s teacher. Learn more about JICS and cultural celebrations here.
4. Message from PA President
Dear JICS Families
It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the end of term. A few updates from the PA:
The servery is now fully stocked for class events, including plates, mugs, cutlery, and coffee urns. These can be used for class/parent events that occur at the school, such as class breakfasts. For a full inventory, please contact Tory McCracken (tory.mccracken@utoronto.ca).
In an effort to have fewer, but more meaningful events, we’ve partnered Grandpal’s Day with the school’s holiday sing-along. Be sure to tell the important grownups in your child’s life about coming out to celebrate and sing together next Friday. RSVP
As we start to plan for the new year, please keep in mind that the PA is able to sponsor diversity celebrations, like Lunar New Year and Black History Month (up to $50 per class per celebration). To claim your expenses, click here.
If you haven’t yet paid your PA fees/donation or would like to donate more, please consider giving through your company’s United Way campaign. Details on how to donate through United Way, including donation of shares, can be found on our ‘Ways to Donate’ page.
As we approach the holiday season, consider giving JICS sweatshirts and toques for you and your family to wear with pride. Get your school wear at the JICS Shop online.
Have a warm and safe week!
Deepta
