1. Grandpals “Festivals of Light” Holiday Sing-Along on December 20

We are planning a special last school morning of 2019.  This year, we are inviting grandparents or a grand-pal (a special adult in your child’s life), along with parents, to join the children on Friday, December 20.  We ask that they arrive at school early at 8:30 am and come in to visit the classroom.  After some time exploring the classroom, we will all transition to the gym/auditorium at 9:00 am where JICS music teachers, Suzanne and Russell, will lead us in a community sing-along!  (Lyrics will be provided.)  Together, we will sing songs representing the diversity of celebrations that take place during this time of year.  Following the assembly, the children will return to their classrooms and we invite our guests to an adult reception in the foyer of 56 Spadina.  Please RSVP

2. SK Art Murals on Display

The SK students spent 4 classes creating the beautiful murals on display on the first floor near the gym windows and we hope you will stop by to appreciate them.

After reading the book Mouse Paint, they began to explore how to blend primary colour pairs. During the first three classes, students were asked to choose “a Mouse Paint pair” to blend, using brushes, stamps, fingerprints, or a combination of tools. Their last step was to choose a colour or colours to add the finishing touches for their pieces. Each week, students were careful not to cover all of the previous layer, so that each step of their process could be seen.

Below are two photos showcasing some of the many art exhibitions currently on display in the McCain Pavilion and in our main stairwell. Please feel free to take these works in at tonight’s Book Night, or during the remaining days of our fall term.

Book Night Reminder:

Book Night is tonight from 6:00-7:30pm.  Visit the Book Fair in the 56 Spadina foyer to support the JICS Library.  You can also bring cash to purchase Lucky Draw tickets on site or purchase online here to win great prizes! See you this evening and don't forget your pyjamas!

4. Food Drive

We need your help to fill these boxes!

The Social/Climate Justice Club will be traveling to the Avenue Road Food Bank on December 11th to deliver nonperishable food items, toiletries, baby products and more. However, we do not yet have enough collected to make a delivery! We encourage all JICS families to make a donation as soon as possible - the need in our community is urgent. Cash donations are also being accepted at the front desk.  The club members will go shopping with any funds donated to purchase food items.

Together we can make someone’s life change for the better and bring some holiday joy.

Please bring in all donations by the end of the day on Tuesday December 10th. Thank you!

5. Note from the JICS Trash Team

Dear Jackman ICS Families,

Do you ever find yourself unsure which bin to put an item in? You are conscious and wanting to make the right choice, but its not always clear how to dispose of our waste. The City of Toronto has a website called The Waste Wizard which can help when making these tricky decisions! Just type in the item you have and the Waste Wizard will tell you where to put it. Does your item not show up? Scroll down a bit and provide them with feedback including items that need to be listed. There is also a Waste Wizard app that you can download to your device and your answers will be a click away.

Introduce the Waste Wizard to your children at home and have them actively involved in making decisions about your family’s garbage and recycling.

Thanks,

JICS Trash Team

6. Girls' Basketball Team

The Girls' Basketball Team played their quarter-finals game against Ossington Old Orchard P.S. on Friday, Nov. 29 with determination and were not hesitant to compete fiercely.  Parents, JICS children and staff energetically cheered them on during the fantastic game.  The Jets won and advanced to the semi-finals today at Givins Shaw P.S. After a hard-fought battle, the Girls' Basketball season has come to an end.  We are so proud of the girls and their amazing effort and teamwork this season.
