Toronto Police News Release

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Yesterday afternoon, Toronto police issued a news release about an incident that was reported to have happened in our community recently. On Friday, May 25, 2018, at about 3:45 pm, two 11 year-old girls were inside a convenience store near Spadina and Bloor when they were approached by a man who sexually assaulted the girls.

Although this incident does not involve our school or JICS students, we all take an active interest in neighbourhood safety so we are sharing this report with you. For your information, the person police are seeking is described as approximately 30 years old, clean-shaven, and with short brown hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a wearing baggy grey T-shirt, and baggy dark jeans. If you have any information that might assist police with its investigation, please call 416-808-1400 or contact CrimeStoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or at http://www.222tips.com. To read the full police alert and see security images of the man, please visit http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/newsreleases/41180

The well-being of our students is always a top priority. We are fortunate to have a number of practices, programs, and policies that contribute to a caring and safe school. However, most incidents happen away from school and outside of school hours. I want to emphasize to all our students, staff, and parents the need to be aware and alert at all times, no matter where you are and even in the most ordinary and everyday routines.

Our staff periodically speak to students about how to stay safe and we will be doing so again. We are arranging for Toronto Police to come to speak to some of our grades. I know that you too will want to help ensure our community is as safe as possible. Attached, please find tips from the Toronto District School Board that you may find helpful when discussing safety with your child.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
