READ-A-THON & BOOK NIGHT
-
Kick off for our 24th Annual Read-a-thon is Thursday, March 1.
-
Book Night is Wednesday, March 7 from 6:00-7:30pm
-
Join us and JICS Families for an evening celebrating literacy. Another Story Book Shop will run the book fair for us, in the foyer of 58 Spadina, for the whole day and evening on March 7.
-
For the evening celebration, we have invited beloved story-teller, Dan Yashinsky, to spin a few yarns for families in our very own J. Fraser Mustard Assembly Hall. The Glee Club will perform and students will be invited to share literacy projects
-

This will be a wonderful community event, an important fundraiser for the Library program, and a perfect opportunity to purchase books for your avid and aspiring readers during March Break! Please let Krista know if you are interested in volunteering with this event.
Donations for Raffle baskets needed!
We will be collecting donations in the school office for a gift basket raffle until March 2. The proceeds of the raffle allow us to enrich your child/children's learning and reading throughout the year by bringing authors and storytellers to the school. As baskets have traditionally consisted of items generously donated by Jackman ICS families, we would like to encourage you to donate an item to be included in a raffle basket. No item is too small - the Book Night Committee will organize all items into theme-based baskets. Tickets will be sold leading up to the week of the event.
-
past donated items have included: toys; new books; wine; tickets for performances; gift cards; games
Read-a-thon:
-
During the month of March, we invite you and your children to focus on literacy and reading. We encourage each child to set goals for their reading and enjoyment of books. The goals that are set will look different for each child. We suggest adopting the goal of spending at least 20 minutes per day reading for Read-A-Thon (this may already be part of your ongoing reading goals). As your child reads, pledges can be collected from family and friends for the books that they have read, or that are read to them.
-
By participating, you can help the Jackman ICS Library raise funds to increase our collection! We use the funds raised to improve the scope and variety of books in our collection, purchasing books from independent book stores and that need to be ordered from educational publishers and specialty stores. In addition, funds raised allow us to invite many wonderful storytellers, authors, and illustrators.
-
Participation in Read-A-Thon is fun! The sponsor sheet allows families to identify sponsors and track the pledges for the month of March. If you prefer, a flat donation is also welcome.
-
DONATIONS can be made to the “Jackman ICS Parents’ Association” online, by cheque or cash.
-
Tax receipts are available for donations of $25 or greater
-
Cheque: please note on the memo line “Jackman ICS Library Fund”.
-
Cash: please clearly indicate on the form the name and address that should appear on the tax receipt.
-
-
Every child who raises $25 or more will have his or her name placed on a bookplate in a new library book and the classes with 100% participation will celebrate with a collective prize.
-
All Read-a-thon forms and donations are to be submitted to the classroom teachers by Friday, April 6.

Thank you in advance for your support of the Jackman ICS Library!
